If only there is a range of products that can balance skin function, then, any skin problems will be solved.

Acne and Hygiene talk in Johore Bahru

14 May 2008 In: General

Its been a wonderful experience to be across the causeway speaking to a bunch of wonderful tweens on Acne care and hygiene.

We get lots of giggles when asked by me what are the usual places missed out by individuals when bathing. You can be in for a surprise that the most common areas are places that needs most attention like behind the ears, underarms, groin areas, sole of feet and behind joints.

Washing of hands are common before food and after activity, but many actually missed out the fingernails which is where germs will tend to accumulate and where Hand Foot and Mouth disease may spread. We played a game using googy starch with food colouring place on the hand and get the kids to share hand with each other. This demonstrated how bacteria can spread. The message get across loud and clear and at the sametime creates much excitement and fun.

The second part of the session was on proper handling of acne skin. I did a demonstration on proper cleansing, toning, exfoliating and moisturizing. Some of the question ask are

  • When should a child sart learning about proper facial care?
  • Is it really necessary for a teenager to have a proper skincare routine?
  • Is there anything that can be done to prevent breakouts?
  • Why do I have pimple and the next person do not suffer the same fate as me?
  • What are some of the “natural” cure for acne?

Here is the answers given to the questions above:

Proper cleansing should start the moment a child learns to brush their teeth and bath them-self. I’m sure when bathing a child since birth, we starts to wash their face as well on a daily basis. It should be as natural as brushing teeth or bathing.

Introduce a facial cleansing foam when puberty starts of around 12 years old. I say this because I realized that the modern day diet has forced many to mature faster then it used to be. It is very common now for girls to be menstruating at the age of 10 or even earlier.

Skincare is part of hygiene. Without proper hygiene, bacteria manifest much faster. At a time when hormones are fluctuaing and oil glands are somewhat not up to your control, combined with a much active lifestyle during teenage years, proper skincare can save skin from more harms then it deserved, like acne and acne scars.

The best defence line for preventing breakout is proper diet, enough liquid, ample rest and good hygiene which has been discuss in detials on other articles in the site.

There are many things we can decide for our life, our future. the one thing that we can’t choose is what we are born with. That would include our skin. Our genes decides on the type of skin we are bless with. What we can do is to take good care of it and help prevent it from getting worst. If your skin happen to be beyond your control, find a good beauty therapist, if it is really bad get the advice of a skin specialist.

Some ”natural” quick fix for pimple that can be found at home are, doting toothpast on the pimple and let it dry overnight. Using ice, sharpen the ice on a clean board or table top and use the sharp point on the skin few times a day calms down the acne. Use a clay mask that is for oily acne skin and dot it on the acne overnight. Teatree oil is also effective on acne spots.

This are some of the topic discuss during the talk. I’ve recently found some latest develpoment in skincare that I’ll like to share with you on my next post. Very exciting, will have it done by tomorrow. Until then, saiyonara.

Natural mask recipe for oily acne skin

24 Apr 2008 In: Recipes

One of my visitor Olive asked about using natural mask. How to use and How often to use them. Here are 2 recipes that I use and teach my client to use that I found useful in combating Acne .

Generally mask can be use twice a week. The combination of one that is anti-oxidant and soothing and one that is oil absorbing will help balance the skin so that it does not over dry the surface of the skin.

  • Anti-oxidant Soothing Mask for acne skin. I tsp green tea powder mixed with aloe vera gel. Mix and apply the gel over a thoroughly cleanse face for 20 minutes and then rinse off with tepid water. complete with your usual skincare routine.

  • Deep Cleansing Mask for oily acne skin. Stong brew of mint tea ( anti-inflammatary ) mixed with oat. (oil absorbing) . Apply on clean face for 20 minutes. Wet face and gently “rub” off to give the skin a light exfoliating.

Try out these mask, a little massing but surely effective for oily acne skin.

Today I’m going to teach you how to have a home spa facial for acne skin.

Other then your daily routine of cleansing toning and moisturizing, a weekly home facial will help tremendously to help control acne. We have discuss all the steps and different kind of masks and exfoliator earlier. It is now time to put it all together and experience the thorough cleansing effect of a home spa facial.

Try to find a time where there is no distraction when doing your facials. Setting the mood helps the spa facial to be most effective and beneficial. However, do not put off the idea just because you cannot find a quiet time for yourself, making excuses for not doing a thorough treatment for your face is not going to help improve your skin condition. You need commitment to see results.

After cleansing and exfoliating your skin, you can “open” up your pores with steaming or warm towel (not hot but warm).

For steaming, you can either buy a facial steamer or improvise by using a basin filled with boiling water. Add a tea bag, preferrebly green tea, for its anti-oxidant properties and its oil dissolving attributes. For those who has sinusitis, you can double this steaming to help clear your sinus with a drop of eucalyptus essential oil.

Cover a towel over your head with the basin around 20-30cm under your face. I find it helpful to have a drinking straw ready, so that when the water gets cooler, you can extend the steaming by blowing into the water.

If you prefer, 2 towel wring-ed with either floral water or with a drop of essential oil, warmed in a microwave oven for around 20-30 seconds works just as well. After microwaving the towels, unwrapped one towel first and place it over a thoroughly cleanse face. When the first towel begins to cool down, unwrap the second towel and repeat over the face.

Steaming helps to soften the blackheads, deep cleansing the pores from the outside and stimulate blood circulation and lymph drainage for further enhance cleaning from the inside. Steaming also promotes skin regeneration and the perspiration helps to eliminate toxin.

When your skin is thoroughly cleanse, you can remove the already soften blackheads and pimples gently with your fingers wrapped with cotton pads. Never over squeeze any blemishes that is too deeply embedded, just get rid of those that is on the surface. You will not want to exchange blemish , which can be controlled, for scars which is far more damaging for your skin.

Remember that disinfecting your skin is a very important step after eliminating your acne. Clean and disinfect your skin thoroughly before putting on the mask.

A reminder about mask. Mask should be left on the skin according to manufacturers instruction. Usually this will be from 10- 30 minutes depending on the types of mask. However if you decided to rest with the mask on, remember that it should not exceed 1 hour as this will in turn suffocate the skin.

Mask should be cleansed off thoroughly. Remember to check along the hairline. Tone the skin again and apply the protection cream before doting pimple cream on spots only.

Acne on Hairline

18 Apr 2008 In: Advice

Hi everyone, Have been missing in action as I’ve attended a most powerful boot camp over the weekend.

Yesterday had been a rather challenging but fullfilling day as I have to ’squeeze’ many appointment  in a day due to my absence for the pass 5 days.

I’ve notice that many individuals have blackhead along the hairline. This is usually caused because the hairline tend to trap residues of cleanser or shampoo. This residual suds when left to dry along the hairline will irritate the skin and clog the pores. This will in turn cause blackhead to form along the hairline.

To eliminate this problem, make sure that while you are cleansing your face or shampooing your hair, use lots of water to rinse off cleanser and shampoo thoroughly, concentrating especially on the hairline. When using toner, the last place for you to wipe will be along the hairline to double cleanse these area.

Being aware and taking sometime to be more thoroughly with your cleansing habit, you will find yourself having better skin and lesser acne to deal with.
